Martin Puryear to Represent the United States at the Venice Biennale

Martin Puryear will represent the United States at the 58th Venice Biennale opening in spring 2019. Puryear will create new, site-specific artworks for the United States Pavilion's galleries and an outdoor installation in its forecourt.

The United States Pavilion at the Biennale was commissioned and will be curated by Brooke Kamin Rapaport, the deputy director and senior curator of the Madison Square Park Conservancy. It marks the first time the United States Pavilion will be organized by an institution focused exclusively on public art. The artist's monumental sculpture Big Bling debuted in Madison Square Park in May 2016.
