Darren Almond at Bond Street Elizabeth Line Station in London

Darren Almond's artwork will be installed in the Bond Street Elizabeth Line Station's western ticket hall on Davies Street. The installation is commissioned by Selfridges and the City of London Corporation as part of the Crossrail Art Programme. Almond will create a new, site-specific work inspired by the United Kingdom's history of transportation.

Almond says of the project, “As a child I was liberated by the rail network which enabled me to travel the length and breadth of the country; the adventures and the memories of which still inspire and forge new paths for me today. It’s amazing how acute observations made at such a young age still inform and feed into my work today. I hope that my commission will address the space and passage of time and will activate, and hopefully stimulate, the inherent narratives implied by descent and ascent, by arrival and departure.”

Almond's proposal for the Bond Street Station was on view alongside other contributing artists to the Crossrail Art Programme in Art Capital: Art for the Elizabeth Line at the Whitechapel Gallery from March 13 to May 6, 2018.
