EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT
Matthew Marks Gallery seeks Executive Assistant to gallery owner. The assistant will provide support in both an administrative and personal capacity.
The assistant may be asked to communicate directly with gallery clients on the owner’s behalf and is expected to have an eloquent and professional manner. Candidates must possess strong written and verbal communication skills and pay close attention to detail.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: answering telephones, maintaining and filing documents, arranging travel and accommodations, keeping personal and gallery-wide calendars, and assisting with materials for appointments and draft correspondence.

GALLERY ASSISTANT
Matthew Marks Gallery seeks a full-time gallery assistant. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized, personable individual with a background in art history and previous administrative experience at a gallery who is able to perform a multitude of tasks in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in French and German is preferred.
Responsibilities of the position include greeting visitors and answering questions from the public, selling gallery publications, maintaining artist biographies, preparing checklists for exhibitions, updating the gallery’s mailing list, and handling press release and exhibition announcement mailings. The assistant will also be expected to provide general support to the gallery directors, which involves preparing sales packages for clients and making travel arrangements, among other duties.

DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR
The Digital Communications Coordinator will engage the public through integrated digital advertising and social media strategies in support of the gallery's objectives. The coordinator will work with gallery directors to plan and implement these strategies in conjunction with exhibitions and other key gallery initiatives. Duties of the position include but are not limited to managing the gallery’s website and all other facets of the gallery's web presence, developing and maintaining e-commerce for book and poster sales, and working with the gallery’s Rights and Reproductions department.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for technology, excellent written and oral communication skills, and an understanding of how to utilize current and emerging media platforms. Attention to detail and organization, and the ability to prioritize workload according to volume and urgency while working well with others in a fast-paced environment that demands multi-tasking are also necessary qualities.

FULL TIME PREPARATOR
Matthew Marks Gallery is seeking a very organized and professional individual with significant prior gallery experience to join a motivated and idealistic team as a full time preparator. This person must take on independent responsibilities as well as work under the supervision of the Director of Operations and the Head Preparator. This multi-faceted position requires both working well physically with a full knowledge of art handling safety, as well as an ability to complete the administrative archival and registrarial steps necessary for safe and efficient storage and movement of artwork. Some heavy lifting will additionally be required.
Candidate must be willing to take on both complex and basic tasks with equal diligence. Responsibilities will include detailed and accurate condition reports, installation and de-installation of exhibitions and client viewings, packing and shipping of artwork, shipping assistance to Registrar, installation for art fairs, building maintenance, accessioning artworks, and maintaining supplies in clean, well-organized storage spaces. Candidate should be able to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure and be able to prioritize a range of responsibilities and requests from a large team of people. Attention to detail is essential as well as strong communication skills and ability to follow through with projects.
Candidate should have a minimum of five years full time experience in a contemporary gallery. Candidate should have a bachelor's degree in an art related field and relevant experience in museum or gallery work or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with Artbase is desirable.
The candidate must share the extraordinary work ethic that the staff of the gallery possesses and be eager to work together towards a common goal. The candidate should be engaged in this position and be able to make a commitment of longevity.

GALLERY INTERNSHIP
The Matthew Marks Gallery Internship program is a three month program which allows interns to rotate through various positions at the gallery. Each intern post comes with its own specific and challenging duties, familiarizing the intern with a wide array of skills and techniques to prepare her/him to enter the gallery workforce.
SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS
The ideal applicant will be willing to put in a full three months as an intern. Please specify in your application any major scheduling restrictions. Interns will often be responsible for heavy office duty, so prior office experience is also helpful. Prior experience with Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Excel and Filemaker are always a plus. Applicants must have authorization to work in the United States.
COMPENSATION/HOURS
Internships are full-time and are compensated. Work hours are 10:00 to 6:00, Tuesday through Saturday. Applications are accepted year-round. We apologize but we do not respond to all applicants. Only the appropriate candidates will be contacted and brought in for an interview.
