Matthew Marks Gallery seeks a full-time Research and Sales Assistant to work alongside the gallery owner. The ideal candidate will have a BA in Art History, gallery or other relevant experience, and superior writing and research skills.

The candidate will be responsible for developing written content for the gallery as it relates to exhibitions, sales, proposals, and correspondence. In conjunction with the owner’s assistant, the candidate will also provide overall support.

Responsibilities include:
- Prepare written materials about artworks, artists, exhibitions, and proposals
- Conduct in-depth research from archival and library sources
- Research and prepare the provenance, exhibition history, and literature of artworks for exhibitions, art fairs, and private sales
- Help develop and maintain the library, archival filing system, and gallery database
- Assist with preparing sales packets for viewings, exhibitions, and art fairs
- Work with owner’s assistant to provide overall administrative support to the gallery as needed, including drafting correspondence, answering phones, scheduling travel and appointments

- BA in Art History; MA in Art History preferable
- Extensive knowledge of modern and contemporary art
- Excellent writing, editing and research skills
- Professional and discreet manner
