ASSISTANT TO SENIOR DIRECTOR


The assistant to the senior director will provide overall administrative and sales support to the gallery’s senior director. The assistant will manage communication, administrative tasks, artist management, sales and exhibition-related activities.

The assistant may be asked to communicate directly with gallery clients on the senior director’s behalf and is expected to do so with poise and professionalism. Candidates must possess strong written and verbal communication skills and pay close attention to details.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide overall administrative support
- Organize senior director’s schedule and prepare all materials for appointments
- Manage all calls and incoming inquiries from artists, clients and staff
- Coordinate and book all travel and complete associated expense reports
- Assist senior director in preparing and sending offers, managing sales, and following up on invoices
- Assist with art fair preparations
- Prepare and track insurance appraisals
- Additional responsibilities as assigned

Key Skills/Experience:
- Undergraduate degree and knowledge of modern and contemporary art
- At least one years' experience in an executive or administrative assistant role or in a museum, art gallery, or auction house
- Discreet and professional demeanor
- Work well in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

PRODUCTION MANAGER


The production manager will be responsible for preparing all aspects of the gallery inventory for exhibition readiness and safe transport. The production manager will focus on preparing all works for public display, which includes but is not limited to ensuring the works are in excellent condition and are displayed according to the intent of the artist or curator. The production manager must also determine suitable packing and transportation materials, and then oversee relevant production.

The successful candidate will work closely with the senior director of operations, in tandem with gallery staff and outside contractors, to ensure all artworks are optimally prepared for exhibition.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Manage all conservation
-Manage all framing
-Coordinate all production of display materials such as pedestals and vitrines
-Oversee the production of travel frames, crates, and other packing materials
-Carefully track inventory and corresponding costs of all display apparatus and crating equipment
-Additional responsibilities as assigned where relevant

Key Skills/Experience:
-Undergraduate degree and knowledge of modern and contemporary art
-At least 5 years of applicable and relevant experience
-Fluency in artists’ materials, framing, fine art handling, and installation
-Discreet and professional demeanor
-Work well in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

PREPARATOR, New York


Matthew Marks Gallery is seeking a full-time preparator with prior gallery or museum experience. The position requires the ability to install and de-install artwork for exhibitions, client viewings, and art fairs, utilizing extensive knowledge of art-handling and installation safety. The successful candidate will be able to complete both complex and basic tasks with equal diligence and will work closely with the senior director of operations and head preparator.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintaining the gallery’s exhibition spaces and viewing rooms
- Installing and de-installing a wide range of art, including heavy and oversize sculptures
- Exhibition planning, including alterations to the gallery’s structural, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems
- Packing artwork and providing shipping assistance to a team of registrars
- Producing detailed and accurate artwork condition reports
- Procuring and managing supplies

Key Skills/Experience:
- Undergraduate degree and knowledge of modern and contemporary art
- Organized, detail-oriented, industrious, self-motivated, with good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and prioritize a range of responsibilities and requests
- Knowledge of art-handling and installation safety
- Familiarity with ArtBase
