Redescribing the Desert: Vija Celmins in the Southwest at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum

Frances Jacobus-Parker, Pre-doctoral Georgia O’Keeffe Museum Fellow, will deliver a lecture on Vija Celmins at the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum on October 17 at 6 PM in the Museum Education Annex.

Jacobus-Parker will focus on the works created by Celmins after her travels in the deserts of California, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico during the 1970s. Upon the artist's return to Los Angeles, Celmins used the rocks she collected and photographs she took in the deserts as models for meticulous drawings, prints, and sculptures—a process she refers to as “redescription.”
