Matthew Marks is pleased to announce a group exhibition of work by Willem de Kooning, Peter Fischli/David Weiss, Lucian Freud, Katharina Fritsch, Roni Horn, Ellsworth Kelly, and Brice Marden, the next exhibition in his gallery at 522 West Twenty-second Street.
The exhibition includes seven works that have never been exhibited in New York: one of de Kooning's final paintings; Fischli and Weiss's new installation created for the rear gallery, Room in the Back; Freud's 1992 painting Parts of Leigh Bowery, an intimate portrait of the late performance artist; new sculptures by Horn and Fritsch; a large triptych comprising three gray panels by Kelly, that has been on loan to the National Gallery in Washington D.C. for the past decade; and Marden's Study for the Muses (Eaglesmere Version), shown in the 1995 Whitney Biennial in its first state as a vertical painting. Marden completed the painting in 1998, and it has been transformed into a wholly different work.
Willem de Kooning, Peter Fischli/David Weiss, Lucian Freud, Katharina Fritsch, Roni Horn, Ellsworth Kelly, Brice Marden will be on view at Matthew Marks Gallery, 522 West Twenty-second Street (between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues), through November 27, 1999.
