Matthew Marks is pleased to announce David Armstrong: New Photographs, the next exhibition in his gallery at 523 West Twenty-fourth Street.
The exhibition consists of approximately 40 color and black-and-white photographs made during the past two years in a variety of American and European locales. The landscape works, which are all in color, include images of gardens and parks, street scenes, and urban architecture. A small group of interior scenes, a departure for the artist, will also be exhibited. Armstrong has continued his portrait work, in color as well as black and white, and will exhibit 10 recent examples.
The exhibition will debut Arbor, a portfolio of six Cibachrome prints. The color images of solitary trees were photographed throughout all the seasons of the year in rural as well as urban settings.
In May 2000 a monograph of Armstrong's color landscape work will be published by Scalo Press, which also published his 1997 monograph, The Silver Cord.
David Armstrong: New Photographs will be on view at Matthew Marks Gallery, 523 West Twenty-fourth Street (between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues), through November 6, 1999. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.
