Matthew Marks is pleased to announce New Photographs by Nan Goldin, the next exhibition in his gallery at 522 West 22nd Street.
This exhibition will include 40 color photographs made in the past two years, since her retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
The Whitney exhibition, Nan Goldin: I'll Be Your Mirror, opened in October 1996 and traveled to museums in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Holland. Over a quarter of a million people have seen the exhibition to date, which opens in Prague, its final venue, this January.
Nan Goldin's new photographs reflect her travels over the past two years. Pictures in the exhibition were taken throughout Europe and Scandinavia, as well as closer to home, including Coney Island and her parent's house in Swampscott, MA. Her subjects continue to be her family and friends, many of whom are familiar from her earlier photographs. A note of introspection, perhaps serenity, can sometimes be detected in Goldin's new work as she continues to document the birthdays, marriages, new relationships, and the inevitable passing of friends as well as her own ongoing struggle for sobriety.
New Photographs by Nan Goldin will remain on view through November 28th at 522 West 22nd Street (between 10th and 11th Avenues). Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 to 6:00pm. For further information or photographs please contact Jeffrey Peabody at 212-243-0200.
