Matthew Marks is pleased to announce, Gary Hume, the next exhibition in his gallery at 522 West 22nd Street.
The exhibition will consist of twelve paintings, each approximately 7 x 5 feet, painted in high-gloss enamel on aluminum panels. Hume continues to demonstrate his great skill as a colorist, using subtle and unusual color combinations, while expanding his subject matter which now includes portraits of men and women as well as flora and fauna.
Gary Hume was born in 1962 in Kent, England and lives and works in London. He graduated from Goldsmith's College in 1988 and later that year showed his work in the landmark exhibition Freeze, which heralded a new generation of young British artists. Since that time he has participated in virtually every significant exhibition of the new English artists in Europe and the U.S. He has had several important one-man museum exhibitions in Germany, Switzerland, Holland and England and represented Great Britain in the 1996 Sao Paulo Biennale. Gary Hume was nominated for last year's Turner Prize by the Tate Gallery and his work is currently on view at the Saatchi Collection in London. This summer his work will be included in Site Santa Fe.
This show will be Gary Hume's third one-person exhibition at the Matthew Marks Gallery.
Gary Hume will be on view at the Matthew Marks Gallery, 522 West 22nd Street (between 10th and 11th Avenues) through June 27th, 1997. Hours: Wednesday through Saturday, 12:00 to 6:00 PM.
